Leaving aside the correlative nature of this study and the ambiguities around interpreting differences in corpus callosum white matter density as a biomarker for "neural damage," this study makes the dubious assertion that skunk weed is high potency.
Bad science compounded by lazy journalism is a reminder to never trust any science news from UPI.

Meanwhile, a parallel study of alcoholics had to be abandoned because nobody could find any corpus callosum to examine.
ReplyDeleteBtw, here's a sentence from the same "science journalist" a few weeks ago:
ReplyDeletePrevious research has shown to disrupt brain development in teens.
The guy is illiterate. Or smoking something very hazardous.
I think the 'high potency' part is probably the most trust-worthy part of the paper!
ReplyDeleteFrom this paper, we can deduce that childhood causes brain damage in neurotypical subjects. That is, if all reduction in white matter/axonal connectivity is bad, aka "damaged", anyway.
Another line from their previous study: "The use of hash was not associated with increased risk of psychosis,” she added."
ReplyDeleteSo, no THC there??
Actually, no one wonders that at all, Jungle Jargon - other than a few fans of Nancy Reagan that just think "marijuana" (the racist name for it in English) is "bad".
ReplyDeleteOne key component (CBD) is used to treat schizophrenia and other illnesses.

No one becomes mentally ill from cannabis. Some already ill patients can have elevated symptoms of their illness, and should not use it, along with a host of other things, including watching scary movies and interacting with clowns.
Jungle Jargon let me break it down for you. People who smoke pot do become schizophrenic. But it's not because they smoked pot. People who drive cars become schizophrenic. But not because they drive cars. Any easier to understand now?
ReplyDeleteSean Davis - It's not as simple as blaming the media. The authors (scientists) used the same biased language and framing throughout. (speaking of the authors in the OP, and a few other papers that can be found)
ReplyDeleteMost media coverage is indeed slanted, but the vast majority no longer are against cannabis.
Jungle Jargon would you please document that? Thank you.
ReplyDeleteJoseph Moosman, I've blocked Jungle Jargon for general idiocy and bad manners.
